Airtel Spent Rs 18,699 Crores in Spectrum Auction, Acquired 355.45 MHz Spectrum


In the second day of spectrum auction has come to an end and even today the auction has got very good response. On the second day, telecom company Bharti Airtel acquired RadioWave worth Rs 18699 crore in the spectrum auction.

Bharti Airtel: 77,146 crore bids were received on the first day of the spectrum auction. At the same time, the second day is also very special for the auction and it has received more response than expected. Today’s auction held a total of 2 rounds while on the first day the auction lasted for 4 rounds. In the auction for the second day, telecom company Bharti Airtel has acquired RadioWave for Rs 18,699 crore and the announcement has been made officially by the company.

As per the report, Bharti Airtel has said that it has acquired 355.45 MHz spectrum for Rs 18,699 crore for sub GHz, mid GHz and 2300 MHz bands in the latest spectrum auction. Airtel has secured pan India foot print of sub GHz spectrum which will help in improving indoor and building coverage. The most important thing is that Airtel will improve its indoor coverage with the help of this spectrum and this spectrum will help to improve its coverage even in villages.

Airtel has acquired 355.45 MHz spectrum in sub GHz, mid band and 2300 MHz bands for a total consideration of Rs 18,699 crore in the latest spectrum auction conducted by the Department of Telecommunications. After which Airtel stated that despite the huge amount of spectrum available, the 700 MHz band did not get any bids from the operators as there was no economic case for them due to the high reserve price.

The company said, ‘The 700 MHz band together with the 3.5 GHz band has the potential to accelerate India’s progress in the top leagues of digitally enabled countries. Therefore, the reserve pricing of these bands should be addressed on priority in the future.

Gopal Vittal, MD and CEO (India and South Asia), Bharti Airtel, said the company now has a ‘strong spectrum portfolio that will enable it to deliver the best mobile broadband experience in India’. Vittal said that ‘We are most excited to strengthen the Airtel service for the additional 90 million customers in India through the power of our Pan-India sub GHz footprint’.

Talking about spectrum auction, a total of 7 bands are to be auctioned and a total of 2308.80 MHz spectrum worth Rs 4 lakh crore has been offered. At the same day, the auction on the first day on March 1, auctioned spectrum worth Rs 77,146 crore. Private telecom companies Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea participated in it.
